AMI Resources: Bipartisan U.S. Senator Letter Warning on Eminent Domain
Recently, a bipartisan group of four U.S. Senators — the Hon. Pat Toomey (R-PA), Mark Begich (D-AK), John Boozman (R-AR), and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) — wrote to the Secretaries of Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD). They ask questions and warn about the proposed use of eminent domain.
In this letter, the Senators note that eminent domain’s use would have “national consequences,” the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has publicly voiced its opposition to eminent domain, saying it could “negatively affect the extension of credit to borrowers seeking to become homeowners,” and argue that the Obama administration “has been largely silent on the subject.”
